Dear Neighbor, 

On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to question DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. As you know, I’ve long championed — on a bipartisan basis — real reforms to end corruption, which is why during the House Judiciary Committee hearing, I focused my questioning on serious allegations concerning procurement violations, conflicts of interest and corruption happening at the Department of Homeland Security under her watch. 

Less than 24 hours later, President Trump fired her, apparently amid growing frustration over Secretary Noem’s $220 million taxpayer-funded ad campaign featuring her in front of Mount Rushmore (which was the central subject of my questioning the day before, as well as Republican Senators Kennedy and Tillis). 

It was a consequential development for the country, and an important reminder chat oversight still matters a great deal. However, this must be the first step in our fight for accountability, not the last, and we’ll certainly keep working to ensure that the rule of law prevails and your tax dollars are being spent with integrity — not used for personal political motives.

Despite the Trump administration’s unlawful attempts to block Members of Congress from conducting oversight, on Monday, a federal court again affirmed our clear right to conduct unannounced oversight visits in Neguse et al. v. ICE et al. 

This is yet another victory against an administration whose cruel and inhumane immigration policies have inflicted a heavy toll on communities across the nation.

We will never stop standing up for transparency and accountability, and we will continue to make clear that no president or administration can bend the rule of law to their will.

To me, showing up means visiting with community members from across Colorado’s 2nd District and hearing from them directly about the challenges they are facing. Which is why it was so meaningful to spend time connecting with neighbors at our “Congress on Your Corner” event in North Boulder last week and during our Mobile Office Hours event in Erie. We’ll certainly continue to make time for these face-to-face exchanges and encourage folks to stop by and say hello whenever they see Team Neguse out and about in the community!

The Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program is a vital lifeline for the communities I serve across Western Colorado, and I’m incredibly proud that after years of hard work, we were able to deliver retroactive SRS payments for 2024.

These payments will make folks across our state and throughout rural America whole, ensuring that every community receives the full amount they should have received two years ago — delivering real, tangible support for:

• 🚙 Local infrastructure like trail and road maintenance.
