Our legislation would work to renew people’s faith in our democracy by ensuring transparency through campaign finance reform and preventing unrestrained spending and dark money in elections. And while some may believe the effort faces difficult odds, I’ve long believed that we must keep pushing forward, which is why I’m working to build a coalition in support of this critical legislation.
On the government funding front, over the past eight months the Trump administration has been undermining core functions of the Federal government — firing hundreds of thousands of public servants, cutting core health care programs and services, and dismantling agencies entirely. Now, the administration is marching our country towards a government shutdown. With the September 30th fiscal cliff days away, I’ve made clear I will not support a partisan Republican spending plan that continues these reckless policies and strips Colorado families of their health care coverage. If such plans are realized, healthcare premiums, co-pays and deductibles will skyrocket for folks across Northern Colorado and the Western Slope, and hospitals, nursing homes and community-based health clinics will close. That’s not a clean “continuing resolution” — it would be an unconscionable attack on the healthcare of the American people.
As the situation develops in the coming days, please know I’ll keep fighting every step of the way, and my promise to you is this: I will work in the best interest of the working families, parents, kids, seniors, veterans, and all folks in Colorado’s 2nd District, and will put the people of Colorado first — always
