Dear Neighbor,
“The FBI Director Just Spurred A Brief Krispy Kreme Rally”
Yes, you read it right — the headline above from CNN a few days ago is very much real.
Earlier this week, I had an opportunity during a House Judiciary Committee hearing, to question FBI Director Kash Patel on a host of issues. As you know, I’ve led the charge in Congress to ban stock-trading by elected and senior officials — so when I learned the Director had been trading stocks, I asked him some simple questions as detailed in the excerpt from this article.
“FBI Director Kash Patel spurred a fierce but fleeting rally in Krispy Kreme shares on Wednesday after he said the stock was a solid investment. The comment came during Patel’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. Colorado Rep. Joe Neguse asked Patel about his decision to purchase individual stocks — including Krispy Kreme and [a] semiconductor company — and the FBI director said he thought they were good buys.”
Suffice to say, it is outrageous that the Director, Members of Congress (on both sides of the aisle), and government officials are trading stocks — and it is why I am pushing so hard for a vote on the House Floor on my legislation. The public reporting just yesterday of abuses of power in the Department of Justice — including the President attempting to baselessly prosecute his political opponents —also warrants a decisive and serious response from both the Judiciary Committee and the U.S. Congress. We will keep you posted on both fronts.
Lastly, I also questioned the Director regarding the agency’s investigation of a social media account that may have belonged to the shooter in the devastating school shooting at Evergreen High School last week. We must continue to combat the gun violence epidemic in our country with the seriousness and urgency it demands, and I will work with federal, state, and local law enforcement to make sure we are doing everything we can to prevent these kinds of tragedies from happening in the future.
