Dear Neighbor:

I hope you and your family are doing well.

Every day, we are tragically reminded just how deeply dysfunctional and broken our current political system has become. As you know, I’ve long been convinced that the best way to fix it — and to rebuild our civic infrastructure — is through public, community town halls, where folks can engage in our democracy the old-fashioned way.

That is why I’m deeply grateful to the 100+ Coloradans who attended our packed town hall in Gilpin County last week! Gilpin County may be the second smallest county in our state, but it is large when it comes to participating in our democracy, as evidenced just last week. Folks from across the political spectrum, liberal and conservative — Republicans and Democrats — provided their suggestions and insights and asked tough questions, and I’m grateful to every one of them.

Folks often ask me why we host so many town halls — 23 since just last January — and the answer is simple: because serving your community means showing up in every town, rural and urban, large and small.

I’ll keep doing the same!

Turns out, another way of engaging with folks includes throwing out the first pitch for Coal Creek Little League’s 2026 Opening Day! I had a great time meeting the athletes last weekend in Erie.

DELIVERING LOCAL WINS

Coloradans in every community throughout the 2nd District have an innate knowledge of what our communities need and what their priorities are. And it is with that in mind that I was grateful to join local leaders at the East Boulder Community Center to announce we’ve secured $1 million in federal funding to help transform part of the center into a community shelter for when disasters, such as wildfires or floods, strike!

THE GOAT TRAIL WILDFIRE & SUMMER SAFETY

As many of you are surely aware, last week the Goat Trail wildfire in Boulder prompted early morning evacuation warnings for many families in our community. Thanks to all of our brave firefighters, this fire is now 100% contained.

As summer approaches, the Goat Trail fire serves as a reminder to please stay safe and follow all local evacuation warnings!

In Congress, I’ll keep working with my fellow members of the Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus to push forward measures that better prepare our communities to be resilient and mitigate wildfire risk, as well as ensure they have the resources they need to recover in the event of a disaster.

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?

⛰️ In Steamboat Springs, this week, #TeamNeguse hosted Mobile Office Hours, sitting down with community members to speak about their questions and concerns and provide critical assistance with navigating a federal agency.
⏪ ICYMI: After Donald Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi, he elevated his personal defense attorney, Todd Blanche. It is outrageous and absurd. The Department of Justice is supposed to function in an impartial and independent way to ultimately ensure the rule of law prevails. More of my thoughts on the matter below.👇🏾

🎨 Calling all high school artists! The annual Congressional Art Competition is now open to all high school students in Colorado’s 2nd District. The overall winner of our local competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.
