Dear Neighbor, After what felt like a particularly long two-week stretch in Washington, D.C., it's been great to be back in Colorado and to spend time with my family and folks across our district! Through all of the happenings these past few months, our team has strived to stay above the fray and stay true to the Colorado ethos—cutting through the chaos, extending a hand of partnership to folks of all political stripes, and remaining focused on addressing the issues of real importance to the people of our state. As I’ve said often – even long before being elected to Congress – I believe the best way to represent the interests of our state is by leading locally and listening first. Your voices guide me, and having the opportunity to hear from you is my top priority. Which is precisely why it was so great to spend this week out and about, holding multiple town halls and community conversations where I was able to hear your concerns and suggestions. If you couldn’t attend any of these events and have questions, please reach out to my staff (here) and we will work to get you an answer or assistance.

Dear Neighbor,

After what felt like a particularly long two-week stretch in Washington, D.C., it's been great to be back in Colorado and to spend time with my family and folks across our district!

PROTECTING SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE

Last week, in my role as House Assistant Minority Leader, I led leaders from across the Democratic Caucus in a press conference highlighting a dangerous proposal circulating through the House of Representatives. The plan proposed by my colleagues on the other side of the aisle would make devastating cuts to Social Security and Medicare—upending critical programs everyday families depend on, putting health care coverage at risk for millions, and forcing Americans to work longer. I’m committed to ensuring that the plan does not come to pass, and that we protect and strengthen these vital lifelines for years to come.

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?

  • I was proud to cast my vote for bipartisan legislation to support our allies abroad and to strengthen our national security. When democracy is threatened, as it has been, America must stand as a beacon of hope and lead our allies.
  • Grateful to have met with my friend Tom Mauser before the 25th Anniversary of the terrible mass shooting at Columbine High School. He has bravely turned his anguish into advocacy, and has led common sense gun-violence prevention reforms across the nation.
  • Honored to have spoken to the Boulder Valley Rotary Club earlier this month.
  • Excited that the EXPLORE Act passed the House! This sweeping outdoor recreation package includes several bills we’ve led that not only bolster access to hiking and biking across the state of Colorado, but will work to expand access to affordable housing for our mountain communities and enact protections for our public lands. Should you need any assistance from our office, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Please stay safe, stay healthy, and stay hopeful!

Sincerely,
