Dear Neighbor, This week was chaotic and dysfunctional for the American people, as President Trump's reckless tariff tax policies created significant economic harm. Many in our communities felt the very real consequences of this economic turmoil: retirement accounts lost value, recession fears spiked, and small businesses in Fort Collins, Longmont, and Boulder are scrambling to chart a path forward to stay in business and keep folks employed under difficult circumstances. This week’s economic chaos also provided a ripe opportunity for individuals close to the President — including Republican members of Congress — to potentially take advantage of market manipulation in the stock market. As you know, I’ve led the charge in Washington D.C. for years to ban stock trading by all members of Congress — which is why I led a letter this week to Speaker Mike Johnson, urging him to ensure that all Members, on both sides of the aisle, immediately disclose any stock purchases in the past week, and that the Speaker bring our legislation to the House floor for a vote that would ban members of Congress from trading stocks. Dear Neighbor,

This week was chaotic and dysfunctional for the American people, as President Trump's reckless tariff tax policies created significant economic harm.

Speaker

It would be unconscionable for any member of Congress to use their personal position to benefit financially. And I intend to make certain that folks elected to the “People’s House” are working to represent the interests of their communities, not their own stock portfolios.

STANDING AGAINST A HARMFUL BUDGET

Earlier this week, House Republicans passed their disastrous budget resolution, laying the foundation for the Trump Administration’s harmful tax plan – which adds trillions to the deficit while cutting Medicaid and nutritional food assistance, all to pay for massive tax cuts for billionaires.

This plan is a disaster for working families and farmers across Colorado, benefitting the wealthy and well-connected at the expense of everyone else. Safe to say, I voted 'No.’

DEFENDING OUR COURTS

I took to the House Floor to call out an extreme bill proposed by my Republican colleagues that bars federal judges from issuing nationwide injunctions on President Trump’s unconstitutional executive orders. Not only would such a law set a deeply disturbing precedent, but it also erodes the fundamental checks and balances that are inscribed in our Constitution. We're not a monarchy, where the president has unchecked authority. These attacks on the courts and judges must end.
