Dear Neighbor,
This week was chaotic and dysfunctional for the American people, as President Trump's reckless tariff tax policies created significant economic harm. Many in our communities felt the very real consequences of this economic turmoil: retirement accounts lost value, recession fears spiked, and small businesses in Fort Collins, Longmont, and Boulder are scrambling to chart a path forward to stay in business and keep folks employed under difficult circumstances.
This week’s economic chaos also provided a ripe opportunity for individuals close to the President — including Republican members of Congress — to potentially take advantage of market manipulation in the stock market. As you know, I’ve led the charge in Washington D.C. for years to ban stock trading by all members of Congress — which is why I led a letter this week to Speaker Mike Johnson, urging him to ensure that all Members, on both sides of the aisle, immediately disclose any stock purchases in the past week, and that the Speaker bring our legislation to the House floor for a vote that would ban members of Congress from trading stocks.
