Dear Neighbor,

Recently, I was proud to announce funding for 14 community projects that will directly benefit the people of Colorado's 2nd Congressional District. This effort began last year when I proudly submitted requests for community-centered projects that make a real difference for families and households from the Front Range to the Western Slope.

These investments include support for our local law enforcement and first responders, as well as efforts to rebuild our roads, support the construction of local workforce housing, and expand access to safe, reliable, and affordable community programming such as public transit, child care, water infrastructure, and so much more.

Our work is only beginning!

Keep reading to learn more about some of the local projects in your community:

● Over $1.6 million to expand access to child care for families in our mountain communities by supporting the construction of the Clear Creek Schools Foundation Child Care Center.

● $1 million to support the construction of a regional transit system that provides the people of Longmont with a reliable, safe, & direct ride anywhere in the city.

● $1 million to replace aging water and sewer infrastructure serving the Whitehaven Mobile Home Park in Routt County.

● Nearly $960,000 to help upgrade and expand the Town of Gypsum’s wastewater treatment plant and infrastructure.

● Over $908,000 to improve the Timberline Fire Protection District Fire Station’s ability to respond to emergencies, as well as its capacity for tackling the increasing threat of fire and wildfire in our communities.

● $850,000 to support the development of local infants and toddlers through high-quality preschool by supporting renovations at the Edwards Early Learning Center.

● Nearly $640,000 to implement much-needed updates and expand the services of the Food Bank for Larimer County, which will ensure continued and increased food assistance for local families.

● $500,000 to renovate and improve the Christman Airfield at Colorado State University, which is utilized for aviation research and training for wildfire fighting.

● $500,000 for the Town of Erie to make highway and transportation improvements along the Colorado Highway 7 corridor.

● $472,000 to address safety issues along the I-70 Mountain Corridor through technology upgrades.

● $254,000 to help modernize the rural Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

HOLDING THE USPS ACCOUNTABLE

Last week, I sent a letter to the head of the United States Postal Service expressing concern about their proposal to shift Western Slope mail processing operations from Grand Junction to Denver. This proposed change could cause major delivery delays for our neighbors and small businesses.

Under the USPS's proposed plan, mail from Western Slope communities would have to be sent hundreds of miles over the Continental Divide to be processed in Denver. From seniors who rely on mailed prescriptions to rural small businesses that need shipments to arrive on time, mail delivery performance is critical to Colorado.

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?

Last week, the U.S. Department of the Interior announced that it will create protections for over 220,000 acres in the Thompson Divide. This announcement enacted a critical component of the CORE Act, a bill I am proud to lead alongside Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper. Our work to protect Colorado's wildlife and environment continues!

I was excited to join Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet in introducing legislation to expand the Sarvis Creek Wilderness by over 6,000 acres to continue our efforts to protect Colorado’s treasured public lands in the Yampa Valley to beyond!
