Dear Neighbor, Last week at the Capitol, House Republicans continued their push to advance a budget plan that, in my view, would pull the rug out from under our country’s most vulnerable—slashing funding for critical community lifelines like Medicaid, food assistance programs, and federal student aid.  Rest assured, on behalf of the hardworking folks in Colorado’s 2nd District, I’m committed to pushing back against this effort every step of the way.  Keep reading below for more of our work — including an update on our town halls (we recently held our 9th this year — more than the entire Colorado congressional delegation combined!)

 Dear Neighbor,

Last week at the Capitol, House Republicans continued their push to advance a budget plan that, in my view, would pull the rug out from under our country’s most vulnerable—slashing funding for critical community lifelines like Medicaid, food assistance programs, and federal student aid.

Rest assured, on behalf of the hardworking folks in Colorado’s 2nd District, I’m committed to pushing back against this effort every step of the way.

LAST WEEK IN WESTERN COLORADO!

It was great spending the last few weeks in April back home in Colorado, traveling across the Western Slope and connecting with folks in Eagle, Grand, Routt, Summit and Jackson counties. We had the opportunity to meet with ranchers and farmers, small business owners, nonprofit leaders, local elected officials, recreation industry leaders, and more. All of whom make up the backbone of our towns and help support our rural and mountain economies, communities, and natural resources.

I’m also grateful to the hundreds of community members who joined us for our town halls in Steamboat Springs and Edwards. These were our 8th and 9th town halls of the year, and as we continue to host these events I am more and more inspired by the stories folks shared with us, as citizens use their voices to stand up for the people of Colorado and our core values.

So, thank you again to everyone who attended, and be sure to stay on the lookout for more town halls to come!

DIGGING INTO ECONOMIC CHALLENGES AND CONSERVATION PRIORITIES

Collaborating with local elected officials, civic leaders, and small business owners is essential to addressing the unique needs of our communities at the federal level. A week and a half ago, I was grateful to host several roundtable discussions with folks across Western Colorado—including convening meaningful conversations with Colorado ranchers in Kremmling and Eagle, and local leaders in Granby, Steamboat Springs, and Walden.

I also hosted an important Forest Health, Wildfire, and Water Resources Roundtable in Steamboat Springs with some of our leading partners in Routt County, as well as a Civic & Business Roundtable with city officials and local leaders. From fire crews and foresters to water managers and conservation experts, I’m proud to work alongside them to protect our communities and natural resources.
