Dear Neighbor,
Yesterday afternoon, a heinous act of terror took place on Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. We are horrified by this terrible, vicious and antisemitic attack, and my wife Andrea and I are praying for the victims.
As many prepared to begin marking the Shavuot holiday, our Jewish community was subjected to yet another brutal and horrific act of violence. The scourge of antisemitism has metastasized across our country, and we must do more — now — to stop this hatred and violence. We stand with the Jewish community — today and always — and will be united in supporting the victims and their families in the weeks ahead.
Over the past 24 hours, following this heinous attack, I’ve been heartened by the outpouring of support from Coloradans and Americans far and wide. Folks making clear that they stand shoulder to shoulder with our Jewish brothers and sisters, condemning the rise of antisemitism across our nation and uniting with one voice to call for a stop to this hatred and violence.
My office is committed to working with the local, state, and federal agencies in charge of investigating this brazen and targeted attack, and we are in close communication with law enforcement. For the most up-to-date information on the matter, please refer to the Boulder Police Department’s official communications channels: @BoulderPolice.
This is not the first time our Boulder community has carried the calamitous weight of tragedy. But as we have done time and again, we will find strength in our unity and harness the healing power of our community. And now, more than ever, we must do everything in our power to keep our community safe and redouble our efforts to end the scourge of antisemitism.
