Dear Neighbor,

Congress returned to Washington, D.C. earlier this week. Unfortunately, rather than focusing on addressing the fundamental challenges facing our country — including fixing our broken healthcare system and the acute cost of living crisis — my Republican colleagues spent the week ostensibly focused on two things: increasing coal extraction, and former President Joe Biden.

Suffice it to say, my colleagues across the aisle are slow marching us toward another fiscal cliff as we near the deadline for government funding on September 30th.  For my part, I’ll continue putting Coloradans first, and will continue my efforts to hold the Trump administration accountable for its attacks on the rule of law.

SPACE COMMAND DECISION

Earlier this week, President Trump announced his decision to move Space Command HQ out of Colorado Springs and to Alabama. This is a blatant and brazen act of political retribution. And alongside the entirety of Colorado’s federal delegation, I made it clear that I intend fight against it every step of the way, and take action to keep Space Command in our state.

LEADING LOCALLY THROUGH NEW LEGISLATION

I’ve long believed that the best ideas don’t come from Washington D.C. — they come from YOU! Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of visiting with so many talented and knowledgeable Coloradans across the 2nd District through our town-halls, forums, and more, and I couldn’t be more grateful to them for their insightful suggestions and ideas.

To that end, as the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans focus on undermining key agencies and institutions, I’m focused on introducing legislation to protect Colorado and Coloradans. First, I teamed up with Texas Congressman Greg Casar to introduce two bills to reverse the administration’s weakening of federal disaster preparedness and response — specifically NOAA and FEMA. With communities in Colorado and beyond at risk, course correction is not only crucial—but it could mean the difference between life and death.

RECAPPING AUGUST

Over the past few weeks, we visited with constituents in 11 counties, held events in 20 cities across Northwest Colorado, and held our 15th public town hall—more than most Members of Congress in the country. And as we look ahead to September, we’ll keep showing up—in communities large and small!

Last weekend, I hosted a Senior Town Hall in Louisville, where I spoke with folks about my fight to protect Social Security, Medicare, and more. I was also honored to spend some time with Coal Creek Meals on Wheels, an incredible organization that does critical work to keep our neighbors fed—delivering more than 70,000 meals every year to folks in Erie, Lafayette and across Boulder County.

These are the kinds of programs that we can—and must—keep fighting to protect.

Finally, on a more personal note, I had the chance to visit my alma mater, CU Boulder, with my daughter Natalie. We were thrilled to join the coin toss for the Colorado Buffaloes season opener at Folsom Field.

Sko Buffs!

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?

  • 💪🏾This week, I signed onto Representatives Khanna and Massie’s discharge petition to force a vote on binding legislation to release the Epstein files.

  • 🚀I’m honored to join Senator Bennet and Hickenlooper in an effort to award Coloradan Ed Dwight—who was chosen by President John F. Kennedy to be America’s first Black astronaut—with a Congressional Gold Medal. Learn more about Ed’s story HERE.

  • 🫨The House Rules Committee reconvened this week—and Volume 2 of Chaos in the House shows just how far Republicans will go to create disorder in the Chamber. Watch HERE.

  • 🚨Our office is hosting a Mobile Office Hours on Monday, September 15th at 10am-1pm MT in Longmont. Our team will be joined by representatives from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. RSVP for the Mobile Office Hours HERE.

Should you need any assistance from our office, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Please stay safe, stay healthy, and stay hopeful!
