Dear Neighbor, It was another chaotic few days in Washington last week as House Republicans pushed for a vote to cut funding — already approved by Congress — for public radio stations in rural America, critical national security programs, and more. These rescissions are reckless and will have a devastating impact for the country, and I was proud to work late into the night on Thursday to push back against this effort. Dear Neighbor,

It was another chaotic few days in Washington last week as House Republicans pushed for a vote to cut funding — already approved by Congress — for public radio stations in rural America, critical national security programs, and more. These rescissions are reckless and will have a devastating impact for the country, and I was proud to work late into the night on Thursday to push back against this effort.

Now, on a more encouraging note, we have an EXCITING UPDATE 🚨

Last week, we advanced my bill, the Bolts Ditch Act through the House!

The bill, which now heads to the Senate for consideration, allows the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District and the Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority to use, repair, and maintain the Bolts Ditch diversion structure — it’s a common-sense legislative fix that will unlock lasting opportunities for the folks of Eagle County.

ENDING CORRUPTION IN D.C.

As part of a larger effort I’ve been leading to end corruption in Washington D.C., including banning Members of Congress from trading stocks and strengthening anti-corruption laws, last week I introduced a bill with my colleague Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to impose a lifetime ban on former Members of Congress from becoming lobbyists and strengthening lobbying transparency law.

The time for this corruption to end is now. We must clean up the government for future generations and ensure our government is serving the American people, not special interests.

PROTECTING COLORADANS FROM DISASTER

Closing out last week, as Colorado braces for peak wildfire season, Representative Jeff Crank, from Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, and I teamed up in a bipartisan effort to strengthen the state’s aerial firefighting capabilities. Together, we sent a letter to the Secretary of the Air Force, urging the upgrade and designation of eight C-130J aircraft to two of our military bases here in Colorado.

These aircraft would play a critical role in responding to wildfires quickly and effectively—protecting our communities and natural resources. 🛩️

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?

  • Last weekend, I was privileged to speak with some of you at our Summit County Town Hall! And I’m proud to say that this is our 12th town hall this year! My heartfelt thanks to everyone who has showed up and showed out at these events over the past few months.
hi

  • I was also proud to join Senator Michael Bennet in introducing two pieces of legislation— the Tribal Access to Clean Water Act and the Joint Chiefs Reauthorization Act. The first bill aims to close the gap in clean, reliable water access for Native American and tribal communities, and the second bill enhances wildfire mitigation, watershed health, and forest resilience nationwide through partnerships with state, tribal, and local groups.
