Dear Neighbor, I hope you had an enjoyable and safe Independence Day and holiday weekend, and that you and your family are doing well. I know that navigating our political climate has been a tough journey over the last few months, and it’s important, now more than ever, to remain grounded in hope. As President Barack Obama so eloquently stated years ago, “in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.” I intend to keep that in mind — and hope you will as well — as we navigate the coming months and work together to defend our democracy.  As you may know, last week I traveled back to Washington D.C. to help lead the fight against the reckless budget reconciliation bill. In yet another marathon House Rules Committee hearing (which lasted 13 hours and ended at nearly 1:30 am), I led the debate once again against the bill and pushed back against multiple dangerous provisions that will devastate our state and families across the country — you can view some of those exchanges HERE.

Dear Neighbor,

I hope you had an enjoyable and safe Independence Day and holiday weekend, and that you and your family are doing well.

While I’m proud that — working with my colleagues — we were able to successfully block provisions that would sell off Colorado’s public lands, House Republicans nonetheless pushed through their reckless and cruel bill. During the debate and multiple vote series that followed the next day, which lasted over 24 hours, I fought against the bill every step of the way, including lodging repeated objections at 2:00 am on the House Floor to Republican’s blatant procedural abuses (which they refused to consider). Ultimately, the bill — which I once again voted against — passed the House and was signed into law last Friday by the President.

The consequences will be disastrous — the bill slashes healthcare for millions of Americans while increasing the deficit by trillions of dollars. The policies embedded in the reckless budget bill will harm many families across the Western Slope and Northern Colorado, whom will feel the strain of this bill, all while billionaires and big corporations enjoy hefty tax cuts made possible by Congressional Republicans. And because of these cuts, many Coloradans will be left without critical support programs, including food assistance and healthcare access, while rural hospitals across our state face the prospects of potential closure.

Over the coming weeks, our office will be engaged in critical conversations with communities across the 12 counties I’m privileged to serve, along with state and local leaders, as we chart a path forward. We’re also encouraging constituents to contact my office directly for assistance in navigating the impacts of the legislation, as our office stands ready to assist. Finally, I will continue to identify every opportunity possible to reverse the draconian cuts wrought by House Republicans’ reckless bill and work relentlessly to do the same, including through the upcoming appropriations process for FY 2026.”

OUT AND ABOUT IN THE DISTRICT

Last weekend, I was grateful to be back out on the Western Slope in Grand County to visit with constituents and provide an update on our work! We had great visits with local leaders in Granby and Kremmling, and discussed a wide variety of issues facing our rural and mountain communities, including funding for our rural schools, transportation challenges, and the work we are doing to protect our land management agencies, including the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, from draconian budget cuts. I look forward to visiting again soon!

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?

  • Last week, Senator Michael Bennet and I released a joint statement, condemning the proposed budget cuts to NOAA and its Cooperative Institutes. NOAA and these institutes are an integral part of our community here in Boulder and Fort Collins, employing hundreds of constituents, and protecting millions nationwide through their research on weather like drought and wildfires, and the proposed cuts would be devastating to Americans. Click HERE to see our statement — I’m building a coalition of lawmakers to oppose these dangerous cuts in the appropriations process, and will share more on that front as well!

  • I introduced the Vietnam Veteran Commemoration Act to ensure that we continue to honor our brave veterans of the Vietnam War and their families. If you are a Vietnam Veteran or the surviving spouse, you are eligible to participate in our upcoming 2025 Vietnam Veterans Congressional Commemoration Ceremony. To apply, please fill out this form, and a member of our staff will be in touch with you.

  • Our Service Academy Nominations form is live! If you are applying to a Military Service Academy and live in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District, you may apply to interview for a congressional nomination from my office. For more information see our website and to apply click this link.

  • Need help with a federal agency? Join us in Erie on Friday, July 18th, at 2-4 pm MT for Mobile Office Hours with staff from our office. RSVP at this link for an appointment and location!

Should you need any assistance from our office, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Please stay safe, stay healthy, and stay hopeful!

Sincerely,

Joe Neguse Signature
