As we move through this busy fall season, I want to take a moment to share a few exciting updates on our latest work throughout Colorado’s 2nd Congressional district.
Last week, I was proud to host our office’s fifth annual App-A-Thon to help local middle and high school-aged students prepare their submissions for the 2024 Congressional App Challenge. Year after year, I am continually impressed by the dedication and creativity of the students participating in our annual challenge—and with Colorado's technology and innovation sectors booming, I am more confident than ever that these students have a bright future ahead of them. Thank you to all the students, educators, and tech experts who joined us.
I was also grateful for the opportunity to attend and speak at the annual Longmont State of the City, where we heard from key local officials on future housing plans, roadway and pedestrian safety, water infrastructure development, and more. At the event, I shared that our office secured a large federal investment this year to support construction of a regional transit system in Longmont. Additionally, we’ve worked closely with local farmers and small business owners to support programs that spur growth and development in Longmont and across the state. I'm excited for all that's in store for the future of our community—and will continue to work with local leaders to help address our top priorities.
Now—last but certainly not least—I was honored to participate in the groundbreaking of a new 71,000-square-foot high-powered laser research facility at Colorado State University. The Advanced Technology for Laser Applications and Science (ATLAS), part of CSU's Foothills Campus, will focus on converting laser-driven fusion energy into safe, clean energy. From creating long-term fusion energy to developing quantum computing, Colorado is helping our nation lead in the global technological race. Our district is home to some of the best and most cutting-edge research facilities, and I will continue to find ways to support its rapid growth.
