Dear Neighbor, Earlier this week, there were some disturbing reports of DOGE personnel arriving unannounced at the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and NIST (National Institute of Standards & Technology) laboratories in Boulder. Immediately after hearing this, I went on-site to meet with the agency officials to get answers. With the Trump Administration and DOGE continuing their efforts to dismantle critical federal agencies across the country, we had every reason to be deeply concerned by these reports. We will keep calling out these reckless cuts and dangerous attempts to weaken institutions that serve us, the American people. Even more so, we will continue doing everything in our power to defend Colorado’s laboratories and its dedicated public servants — our neighbors and fellow Coloradans. Watch my video on this visit to the facilities HERE or below.

 Dear Neighbor,

Earlier this week, there were some disturbing reports of DOGE personnel arriving unannounced at the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and NIST (National Institute of Standards & Technology) laboratories in Boulder.

There are also troubling reports that the Trump Administration may seek to slash billions from NOAA’s budget, including for critical research used to forecast natural disasters like wildfires and droughts. Colorado communities rely on NOAA’s work to prepare for and mitigate these threats. That’s why, alongside Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper, I led a letter to the Secretary of Commerce demanding an immediate reversal of these proposed cuts. Read more on this effort HERE.

Defending AmeriCorps Service

As you may know, the Trump Administration has launched an effort to dismantle the AmeriCorps program. In Colorado alone, more than 6,600 AmeriCorps volunteers have served at over 700 local sites, playing a critical role in helping communities recover from devastating wildfires, connecting veterans to essential services, or supporting seniors in need. These dedicated individuals exemplify the very spirit of public service, which is why I’ve led the charge for years to support and expand the program.

The Trump administration’s reckless decision to attempt to cut this program is already having disastrous impacts on our state. That’s why I’m proud to stand with my colleagues in both chambers of Congress in urging the administration to immediately halt these cuts and restore full support for AmeriCorps — and I’ll use every procedural tool to fight for the same during the upcoming appropriations process.

PROTECTING SMALL BUSINESSES

From our many roundtables with small business owners to visits with local shops, one concern continues to surface: the uncertainty and chaos caused by President Trump’s on-again, off-again tariff policies. Colorado's small businesses would be among the hardest hit by these reckless tariffs. Earlier this week, I was proud to join the Ranking Member of the U.S. House Small Business Committee in holding the administration accountable for the undue anxiety they are placing on employers and workers alike. Read our letter HERE.
