Dear Neighbor,  As we gather for Thanksgiving, I’ve been grateful to be back home this past week and out in the community — and to be joined by my wonderful daughter Natalie while out on the road (as she was on Thanksgiving break!) During the holidays, it’s important to remind ourselves that service should not pause for a season, rather, we should take stock of what we’re grateful for and make the most of any opportunity to roll up our sleeves and support the people who serve our communities year-round — from first responders to food bank volunteers. Which is why, on Wednesday, I was proud to spend time at Coal Creek Meals on Wheels in Lafayette, helping serve Thanksgiving lunch. I’m so thankful for the hardworking staff and volunteers whose compassion and service bring comfort and joy to our community during the holiday season.

Dear Neighbor,

As we gather for Thanksgiving, I’ve been grateful to be back home this past week and out in the community — and to be joined by my wonderful daughter Natalie while out on the road (as she was on Thanksgiving break!) During the holidays, it’s important to remind ourselves that service should not pause for a season, rather, we should take stock of what we’re grateful for and make the most of any opportunity to roll up our sleeves and support the people who serve our communities year-round — from first responders to food bank volunteers.

We rounded out the day by visiting with constituents for office hours in Boulder, before making our way up to Nederland to check-in with Mayor Billy and his team on their efforts towards recovery from the recent fire at the Caribou Village Shopping Center. While the cameras have come and gone, the damage from the terrible fire remains — which is why it was critical for me to show up, and to keep showing up, long after the camera are gone. Together, we also received an update on the construction of the Big Springs Emergency Egress, a public safety project my office helped secure federal funding for a few years back.

On Thanksgiving Day, my daughter Natalie and I also participated in Community Food Share’s annual Louisville Turkey Trot in honor of a cause near and dear to our community: supporting neighbors in need. My wife Andrea and I, along with our kiddos, were also able to drop off some pies for local firefighters to thank them for their hard work on holidays and everyday.

ON AIR WITH MSNOW: CALLING OUT THE DYSFUNCTION

This week, I joined Jen Psaki on MS Now’s (formerly MSNBC) The Briefing where we talked about the growing turmoil within the House Republican’s Conference and the impact it has had on Congress and our communities. In short, House Republicans have weakened Congress as an institution and fueled the ongoing attacks on the Affordable Care Act, even as they still refuse to offer a real health care plan of their own

But while they stay busy fighting each other, I am clear-eyed on our work to lower costs and deliver for the American people. And please know, I’ll keep calling out this dysfunction until Washington starts working the way it should. Click the image below to watch the segment.
