Dear Neighbor,
Two years ago, the President signed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act into law. This package of common sense reforms, which I worked hard with my colleagues to get across the finish line, was the first major gun violence prevention legislation enacted in nearly 30 years. As we commemorate the 2nd anniversary of this law and the progress it has made, we also reflect on the work still to come.
For our district – from Boulder to Fort Collins to Longmont and beyond – far too many of our neighbors, students, family members, and friends have been impacted by the devastating consequences of gun violence. It’s in their honor and in honor of National Gun Violence Prevention Awareness Month, that I continue to call for common sense gun violence prevention reforms that will strengthen community safety and save lives. We are ready to reach across the aisle and work with folks of all political stripes, in good faith to address this problem.
As Assistant Minority Leader of the U.S. House, last week I delivered remarks on the House Floor to raise awareness of the gun violence epidemic and shine a light on the need to prevent mass shootings and build safer communities. Watch my remarks HERE.
